Frequently Asked Questions

Our tours

General tours are limited at a maximum of 10 people for an intimate and personalized experience but groups of 50 plus can be booked through our contact form with enough notice

are all-inclusive and enjoyed by first-time kayakers and highly experienced
paddlers, but we’d expect you to have a couple of questions before taking the plunge
(we’ll keep you out of the water of course!).

We hope this helps answer any questions you might have!

Do I need to have previous kayaking experience?

We take out complete beginners
all the time, but we have also hosted Olympic kayakers. Our adventure is suitable
for all abilities who want to explore Snowdonia and learn about its amazing
past.

What is the age limit?

The minimum age for children is
5 years old. Anyone under 18 is required to be accompanied by a responsible
adult. There is no upper age limit, though - if you are fit enough, you are
welcome on a tour!

Is there a weight limit/restriction?

Due to safety reasons, there is
a weight limit of 130kg/ 20 stone.

What’s included in the tour?

You’ll be on a 2-hour Kayak tour
of Llyn Padarn led by an experienced guide. You’ll also get a wetsuit to fit
you, water shoes, a paddle, buoyancy aids, and - perhaps mostly importantly - free
photos of you on the water sent to you at the end of the tour.

What should I wear?

We provide wetsuits and water shoes as well as all other equipment you’ll need. You will just need to bring:

· Swimwear or shorts, and a t-shirt to go under a wetsuit· Wetsuits are optional so Clothes you don't mind getting wet if you would prefer to not wear a wetsuit· A towel and a spare set of dry clothes for afterwards· A pair of sunglasses (we’d recommend a cheap pair as they might end up in the lake!)· A bottle of water or electrolyte drink· Waterproof phone case, though we usually have them available to purchase· Suncream – yes, even in North Wales! What is the maximum group number

Can I bring my phone and/or camera?

Yes, but please make sure it is
waterproof, or has a waterproof case, and properly secured - or can float! The
lake is 100ft deep in places so if you lose it, it won’t be coming back.

Your guide will take plenty of
photos that will be sent to you free of charge. If you would still like to
bring your phone, we have waterproof cases available to purchase.

Can I bring the dog?

We can only allow dogs on
private tours, and if they are comfortable around water. Contact us separately if you would like to bring your dog.

Am I likely to capsize?

Our kayaks are very stable. It’s
unlikely you will capsize, but it’s not impossible. If this does happen you
will be wearing a buoyancy aid, and your guide will be well trained to help you
get back onboard.

Do I need to be able to swim?

Non-swimmers are welcome on our
kayak adventures. Everyone must wear a Buoyancy aid regardless of swimming
ability, and you will have an experienced guide with you the whole way.

What about if I WANT to swim?

There is an optional wild swim
towards the end of our tour. Many customers have tried swimming for the first
time with us and loved it!

What other activities can I do nearby?

If you are looking for something
to do before or after your trip - or for members of your party that choose not
to take to the lake - we recommend visiting the National Slate Museum or the Quarry Hospital Museum
[LINK TO WEBSITE], which are free to enter.

Equipment information

What type of Kayaks do you use?

We Wilderness System 130E sit-on
double kayaks, which also convert into single kayaks These kayaks are big
enough for 2 large adults, and are long and wide making them very stable and
easy to paddle.

Will I be in a single or double kayak?

Our kayaks are doubles that
convert into singles. We never make customers from different groups share a
kayak, so groups with an uneven number will automatically be assigned a single
kayak.

We usually allow paddlers aged
14+ to use single kayaks, and children aged 12+ can share a kayak.

If you have more than 1 child
per an adult, get in touch [LINK TO CONTACT PAGE] with us and one of our guides
will be happy to take them out on a boat with them.

If you would prefer a single
kayak, please ask on the day.
